About Sean Fietje: Sean is an award winning artist. Christchurch is his home but he loves to venture out into the magnificent scenery of New Zealand's South Island. After almost 20 years teaching and painting, Sean is now pursuing painting full time. He spent his final 8 years teaching art in international schools in South Africa and Hong Kong where he painted scenes from around the world, but continues to be drawn to landscapes around Canterbury and the South Island. He has a particular love of the Arthurs Pass area where he spent many weekends tramping in his youth.

Sean prefers evocative landscapes with a strong light source. His passion is to capture the subtle textures and small details, so the viewer doesn't just witness a scene. Rather his artistic mission is to invite the viewer to engage with their emotions, to allow the mind to take them on a journey back to New Zealand's almost surreal topography.

So often our visits to special places are all too brief. Tourism can take us to wonderful destinations like Tekapo, & the South Island's High Country, but time snatches the beauty away as we reach out to grasp it. Sean's exquisite capture of what makes New Zealand unique allows us to 'rest here a while' and to re-immerse ourselves in the visual splendour, that took our breath away when we first saw it.
